Description of the professional person
The course was created as a general project to qualify and train professional people linked with a new, scientifically updated approach to the Baroque, Mozart and Rossini repertoire. This was to include research into Musical Theatre, since no specific courses exist in the Conservatoires and/or musical Institutes of equivalent grade and Musical Theatre is a heritage not only of our region but also of Italy.
The course aims to train an expert opera singer in Musical Theatre for a Baroque, Mozart and Rossini repertoire, who is capable not only of singing in chamber ensembles, but also of covering a central role in a specialised vocal ensemble consisting of the following voice types: 3 sopranos, 2 mezzo-sopranos, 2 tenors, 2 basses/baritones and 1 contralto.
The students will initially be given the theoretical basis for the preparatory study of literature, metrics and oratory, a principle basis of musical aesthetics up to and including the nineteenth century, with exercises and in-depth study of the history of musical literature from the 17th century up to Rossini. Subsequently, the students will tackle the basic, coherent vocal technique with repertories and advanced knowledge of modern musicology. This will be linked to an in-depth study of the techniques of drama and acting. The course will also include the Commedia dell’Arte which is the genesis of the practice of the majority of the comic repertoire.

The course structure
The course consists of a classroom training stage lasting 320 hours overall and a practical stage of one month (120 hours) which will be held at the Istituzione Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto “A. Belli” with registered office in Piazza G. Bovio no. 1 06049 Spoleto, operational premises in Piazza Garibaldi (Ex Caserma Minervio), 06049 Spoleto. The training activity will be divided into the following topics/Capitalisable Training Units:

- UFC 1. Elements of history of Baroque, Mozart and Rossini Musical Theatre and links and connections with other authors (35 hours)
- UFC 2. Acquisition of interpretative techniques for the repertoire (285 hours)

Belli” operational premises Piazza Garibaldi (Ex Caserma Minervio), at the complex of Villa Redenta, Via Villa Redenta no. 1, 06049 Spoleto (Pg) and at suitable theatrical spaces available for the Institute in Spoleto and in Umbria.
