FIVE WINNERS

OF THE 69TH EDITION 

OF THE 2015 “EUROPEAN COMMUNITY” COMPETITION FOR YOUNG OPERA SINGERS

ORGANIZED BY THE

TEATRO LIRICO SPERIMENTALE

DI SPOLETO “A. BELLI”

  

Spoleto, 1st March 2015. The winners of the 69th edition of the 2015 “European Community” Competition for Young Opera Singers, organized by the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto “A. Belli” – Teatro Lirico of Umbria, have been declared on Saturday 28th February, in the evening.

The international Jury, chaired by the well-known American soprano Lella Cuberli, was composed of: Antonina Boneva (teacher at the Conservatory in Sofia – Bulgaria), Carlo Donadio (representative of the Artistic Direction of the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma – Italy), Claudio Desderi (baritone), Enrico Girardi (Music Critic of the “Corriere della Sera” and teacher of History of Music at the Università Cattolica in Milan and Brescia), Carlo Palleschi (conductor), Karen Stone (Superintendent of the Magdeburg Theatre) and Michelangelo Zurletti (Artistic Director of the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto “A. Belli”). After five days of intense auditions, and after having listened to approximately one hundred singers, coming from all Europe, the Jury declared winners of the 69th edition of the Competition five singers, who were ranked as follows:

 

I)                   Chiara Mogini, soprano, 24 years old, from Assisi, mark: 8.83

II)                 Beatrice Mezzanotte, mezzo, 23 years old, from Fabriano (AN), mark: 8,43

III)              Nadina Calistru, soprano, 27 years old, from Chisinau (Moldavia), mark: 8,38

IV)             Amedeo Di Furia, tenor, 26 years old, from Rome, mark: 8,17

V)                Sabrina Cortese, soprano, 30 years old, from Rome, mark: 8,13

 

Amedeo Di Furia was awarded the Eur 8.000,00 “Cesare Valletti” Special Prize, bestowed also this year by Mrs. Nicoletta Braibanti Valletti, vidow of the tenor Cesare Valletti, winner of the first edition of the Competition organized by the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale.


The winners of the 2015 Competition will attend a Two-year Preparatory Course and will make their debut in the Opera Seasons of the Institution in Spoleto and in Umbria in 2015 and 2016.


The singers, who will benefit from a period of enhancement in Spoleto, will attend several masterclasses; vocal interpretation with the baritone Claudio Desderi and the soprano Lella Cuberli; the musical score course will be held by Enza Ferrari and Marco Forgione. Among the teachers there will be also the conductors Marco Angius, Carlo Palleschi and Francesco Massimi. The acting and stage movement course will be taught by the directors Giorgio Bongiovanni, Stefano Ricci and Luca Bargagna. The piano accompanists, who will accompany the singers during this period of training, will be Marco Attura and Lorenzo Orlandi.


The Debut Preparatory Course is free of charge. In addition, the singers will be allocated an appropriate scholarship for the whole duration of the Course in Spoleto.


The Competition organized by the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale is one of the most ancient Competitions at international level. It has “graduated” many of the greatest opera singers, including: Franco Corelli, Cesare Valletti, Antonietta Stella, Anita Cerquetti, Anna Moffo, Marcella Pobbe, Margherita Rinaldi, Mietta Sighele, Veriano Luchetti, Franco Bonisolli, Renato Bruson, Ruggero Raimondi, Leo Nucci, Mariella Devia, Lucia Aliberti, Giuseppe Sabbatini, Roberto Frontali, Roberto De Candia Sonia Ganassi, Elizabeth Norberg Schulz, Daniela Barcellona, Cinzia Forte, Micaela Carosi. In the past few years: Maria Agresta, Veronica Simeoni, Andrea Caré e Simone Piazzola, Riccardo Zanellato and many others.


At the end of the 2015 Competition, two singers were declared “suitable”, as provided for in the public notice. The sopranos Margherita Coppola (26 years old, from Taviano, LE) and Claudia Sasso (29 years old, from Albenga, SV) will have the possibility to perform in vacant roles in the operas that will be represented in the 2015 Opera Season.
