Registration is now open for the 78th edition of the “European Community” Competition for Young Opera Singers 2024.

For the 78th edition a Special Prize is reserved to the three first winners, for a total amount of Eur € 10.000.

Luciana Serra, famous soprano singer, will be President of the Jury and the board will be composed by the excellent baritone Roberto Frontali, the music critic Giancarlo Landini, and the Artistic Direction formed by Michelangelo Zurletti, musicologist and music critic, and Enrico Girardi, music critic for Corriere della Sera and Professor at Catholic University “Sacro Cuore” of Milan.

The Competition is open to all young singers that on January 1st, 2024 are not yet 32 years old if sopranos and tenors, and not yet 34 years old if midsopranos, contraltos, baritones and basses. They must be citizens of Countries of European Union, Member Countries of EFTA, Countries candidates to enter the EU or potential candidates to enter the EU and Countries that participate to European cultural program such as “Creative Europe” (as by art. n. 1 of the notice of Competition online at https://www.tls-belli.it/announcement/?lang=en).

The Competition will take place at Teatro Nuovo in Spoleto from 6th to 9th March 2024. Deadline is on 21st February 2024.

Free auditions tied to the Competition will be held on March 10th and 11th for singers who pass age limits foreseen and for citizens from Countries not included by the art. n. 1 of the notice of competition (more information at: https://www.tls-belli.it/free-auditions/?lang=en).

Winners of the competition are about to participate to a two years STUDY COURSE that last five months that prepared them to debut in theatre. At the end of the course winners will debut in 2024 OPERA SEASON that will be held in September.

Individual SCOLARSHIPS are provided: of Eur € 700,00 monthly gross for three months a year and a contract of artistic writing for two months a year of Eur € 1.450.

Among main teachers of the Preparatory Course for Debut 2024, we recall: for vocal interpretation Renato Bruson, Marina Comparato and Carmela Remigio; for interpretation of music score M° Carlo Palleschi, M° Marco Angius and M° Pierfrancesco Borrelli; for piano scores studies M° Marco Boemi and M° Raffaele Cortesi; for acting lessons Andrea Stanisci. Other teachers are being defined.

In addition, there will be lessons about the nomenclature and stage rules, lessons of legislation of music and performers with Roberto Calai, lessons about tax issues related to the singer profession with the Renzo Rossi, a voice hygiene module with the Graziano Brozzi and a module about the work-related stress with the Gigliola Casciola.

Il Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto The “Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto” was founded in 1947 by Adriano Belli, lawyer and musicologist, with the aim of helping young singers to start a career in opera, above all students who had already completed their singing studies and were gifted with artistic qualities, but had not yet made their artistic debut. Winners of the singing competition at the “Sperimentale of Spoleto” attend a two years course where they are trained in several subjects not included in school programmes: preparation of opera, of course, but also training in stage movement under the guidance of the directors and conductors who will later put on the operas during the Debut Opera Season.
